After teaching Sunday School together for approximately 3 years, Tim Myers and Russ Harris noticed among the believers they were encountering there was a sense that something was missing. It seemed that believers were questioning why they were not seeing more evidence of God working in their lives; and they were wondering why they were not experiencing more change and feeling God’s power at work in their lives.
For the last year, Tim and Russ put aside any pre-written curriculum and study guides. They simply began to teach from the Bible, God’s Word. What they recognized while teaching straight from the Bible was a deep, desperate hunger for the Word of God among the people they were teaching. It seems the missing piece that believers need is the Word of God, unaltered and unfiltered.
The excitement that began growing in their Sunday School class sparked the desire to take this unaltered and unfiltered teaching of the Bible and try to share it with everyone they could reach. So in this day and age, what better way than to turn to technology – and so, the idea of a podcast was born.
It was a long road to get to the name of this ministry and the podcast. A name that is not already in use is very hard to come by. The name Underpinned was chosen due to the apparent drought of God’s Word among believers and churches. The definition of Underpinned is to support, to strengthen or replace the foundation of. By diving together into God’s Word, we invite God to underpin our lives and replace whatever things we may currently be relying on as our foundation; and we invite Him to be our support and strength.
The primary intention of this ministry and the podcast is to dive into God’s Word and see what He has to say to us – about Himself, about us, about His plan for us and how He wants us to live this life He has given to us. This ministry and podcast are meant to be inclusive of believers and non-believers.
